- Possess their own hand tools
General Job Description
Performs installation work, in a team environment, on residential and commercial heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. Installs new units or change-outs for existing equipment according to specifications and established safety guidelines. Engages with customers, on site, during key stages of the installation process to teach them about the equipment and answer technical questions. Maintains clean and organized workspace, as well as inventory and daily maintenance inspection of company vehicle while in use. May be required to complete formal training in area of specialty. Gains or has attained full proficiency of residential and intermediate proficiency of small commercial installation process. Capable of managing 1 subordinate staff (Helper) in day to day performance on a residential job, and 0 subordinate staff on small commercial jobs. Able to work independently with no supervision on residential jobs but requires minimal supervision from jobsite supervisor or division manager on small commercial jobs.
Competencies / Skills
- Efficient with leading and organizing residential installation job with 1 Helper
- Full proficiency in HVAC residential knowledge of the following (may need guidance for small commercial installation):
- Setting residential & small commercial equipment
- Safe and efficient installation of gas lines
- Furnace venting procedures
- Pressure testing & troubleshooting
- Read and interpret commercial and residential blueprints
- Able to independently problem solve and make decisions to execute blueprint installation plan
- Able to start up most equipment without supervision: gas furnace, heat pumps, AC split systems, rooftop units, boilers, make-up air units, exhaust equipment, and pool units
- Able to conduct minor troubleshooting and diagnostic for equipment listed above, may require guidance of a senior mechanic or supervisor
- Requires moderate supervision for boiler installation process
- Beginning to understand the process of planning and executing a multiple day residential and small commercial projects
- Organization of material inventory required for job to run smoothly
- Beginning to understand Refrigeration cycle (evacuation, charging, superheat, subcooling)
- Strong customer service skills
- Clear oral and written communication
