With every year, New Year promises, and resolutions become abundant! While many people make resolutions to accomplish new goals, lose weight, or save money—consider focusing on improving the space you spend the most time with family—your home.
Make It Safe
Ensure you’re not living with a potential fire, health or security risk. Test all your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, fix any broken locks or windows, and consider installing a security system. Besides fire alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, you can also check for gases like radon. Lastly, check you dryer for lint, and prevent any risk by cleaning the dryer vent after each use.
Lower Energy Usage
Keep your energy bill low and help improve the planet by turning off the lights when you’re not using them, keep the thermostat at a lower temperature when you’re not home, turn off the faucets while brushing your teeth, wash only full loads of laundry. Not only will this benefit the environment, it will help your wallet as well.
De-clutter your home, room by room, getting rid of anything you haven’t used in years or that you and your family no longer need. You could donate items that others might find useful.
Maintain HVAC System
Schedule your annual maintenance for your heating and cooling system. A trusted HVAC technician should come, inspect and clean your HVAC unit twice a year. In addition to bi-annual maintenance, inspect and change your air filters every 2-3 months. HVAC maintenance will improve your home’s air quality, lower energy bills and prevent costly repairs.
